De KNAW heeft de Dr. A.H. Heinekenprijs voor Milieuwetenschappen 2014 toegekend aan professor Jaap Sinninghe Damsté, afdelingshoofd bij het NIOZ Koninklijk Nederlands Instituut voor Onderzoek der Zee en hoogleraar organische geochemie aan de Universiteit Utrecht. Prof. Sinninghe Damsté krijgt de prijs voor zijn grote inspanningen bij de ontdekking en ontwikkeling van ‘chemische fossielen’, die ons helpen de geschiedenis van de aardse biosfeer te reconstrueren.
