About
Port Orange, Florida — On September 3, 2026, around 8:30 a.m., a woman, identified as 71-year-old Linda Jean Croteau, entered the main lobby with a handgun at the Port Orange Police department’s headquarters at 4545 Clyde Morris Blvd. She pointed the handgun at employees, and fired toward an evidence room where staff were present. She later exited the lobby with the gun, toward the parking lot where civilians and responding officers were located. Officers gave repeated commands for her to drop the weapon, but she continued to advance toward the officers in the parking lot who fired several rounds. Officers stopped firing when she dropped her weapon, and they continued to issue commands to get her to surrender. The video then shows Ms. Croteau on the ground reaching for her weapon as officers were commanding her to surrender before officers fired again. Officers hurried over to provide aid, and she was transported to the hospital. Police said three officers were involved in the shooting, but none were injured. FDLE is now investigating the shooting.
