About
Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy were one of the best pairings of comedians that ever existed. I have been collecting their films for over 50 years now. This film was their first "Talking Picture". They had previously been making silent films together for about two years and they include some of the funniest moments on film ever. Since 1929 is the beginning of "The Boys" sound careers and also just went into Public Domain I'm going to start scanning some of their best older comedies and hopefully introduce some of you to an amazing comedy team. Now that said, this isn't one of their best comedies, it's only a landmark in being the first one with sound.
After all of that, THIS is the Silent version. Why share it? Because it "should be seen" by Laurel & Hardy fans. At least to compare it to the sound version. It was edited differently to allow for the Intertitles and the dialog was changed slightly. It is heavy with dialog and I really prefer the sound version but what might not be known by everyone was that this was the only version available to be seen for a very long time. The audio discs were lost for many years and this was the only version available. So experience this sorta like it was seen by many people for years, in glorious silence.

The film was scanned with The Gugusse Compact. This is a DIY film scanner project that was built using a 3D Printer.
