About
Description: In March 2025, NASA’s B200 King Air – based at Armstrong Flight Research Center in Edwards, California – conducted flights over prescribed burns in Geneva State Forest in Alabama and Fort Stewart in Georgia, supporting NASA’s Science Mission Directorate’s FireSense project. This multi-agency mission aimed to collect data to improve fire behavior models, particularly smoke lofting, trajectory, and dispersion. The B200 flew at multiple altitudes before, during, and after fire events to gather essential measurements.
