Aman Chhipa explained and performed the Adhaan, call to prayer, for the Iftar celebration. Aman is the son of USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), Census and Survey Division secretary Fahmida Chhipa. Ramadan is the month of fasting, intensive prayer, sacrifice and worship for Muslims around the world. Throughout this month, Muslims fast during the day, abstaining from consuming food from dawn to dusk and using this time to purify spiritually. Fasting reminds Muslims of the poverty and hunger suffered by many in the United States and worldwide. It is a connection with those who are hungry not through devotion, but through the many global factors that lead to hunger and famine. Iftar is the meal at which Muslims end their fast at sunset, usually by eating dates, according to the Prophetic tradition. USDA Media by Lance Cheung.
