About
At 2:51 PM on November 26, a fire broke out on the exterior scaffolding of Wang Cheong House in Wang Fuk Court. The fire gradually spread to seven buildings, with several units completely engulfed in flames. As of evening, the fire continued to rage in several buildings and remained out of control. A large number of residents sought refuge at temporary shelters, some becoming emotional and weeping. The cordon was continuously expanded. The Home Affairs Department stated that it would closely monitor the situation and provide appropriate assistance to the public. As of nearly 8:30 PM, the fire had resulted in at least 28 injuries and 13 deaths, including 37-year-old firefighter Ho Wai-ho, who had served for nine years. Chief Executive John Lee, Secretary for Security Chris Tang, and Secretary for the Civil Service Ingrid Yeung expressed their deepest condolences.
