About
This set of videos taken from the POMME system (developed by IFREMER) shows the Nautile, IFREMER's manned submersible, intervening on the Lucky Strike hydrothermal field during the MoMARSAT 2025 campaign. The Nautile enables maintenance operations on the EMSO-Azores observatory: this involves recovering and reinstalling the Seamon West Station and its instruments, taking samples of fluids, rocks and fauna, as well as carrying out video inspections.
The MoMARSAT 2025 campaign provides annual maintenance for the EMSO-Azores observatory, which aims to collect data on hydrothermal, tectonic, and volcanic processes on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. This program is part of the EMSO-ERIC network, supported by IFREMER and CNRS, and includes instruments for measuring environmental conditions and faunal dynamics.
The Nautile, a manned submersible developed by Ifremer, is 8 meters long, 2.7 meters wide, and 3.45 meters high, weighing 18.5 tons. Designed to dive to depths of up to 6,000 meters, it is used for maintenance operations, sample collection, and monitoring deep-sea ecosystems.
