About
A Plantation Act, 1926 short film starring Al Jolson in his film debut.
Released on October 7, 1926 (a year before The Jazz Singer) at the Colony Theatre, New York as part of a repertoire of films, the film was a Vitaphone ‘sound-on-disk’ recording and starred Al Jolson in blackface singing three of his hit songs: "April Showers", "Rock-a-Bye Your Baby with a Dixie Melody", and "When the Red, Red Robin (Comes Bob, Bob, Bobbin' Along)".
Thought lost until the 1990s when a silent copy was found in the Library of Congress and a separate broken sound track was repaired & then synced with the film by LoC techs.
