With Deryck Guyler as Davenport, George Benson as Desmond. Rodney Wingfield's first play - set in a bank. There's a new manager who's only interested in productivity, and there are sackings. But two redundant old buffers hatch a plan to get their own back. Davenport and Desmond have been warring with each other for thirty-five years at Webster and Co. Only when they are summarily dismissed do they discover the advantage of working together. It can prove very profitable Roberts:……..Garard Green Hewitt:………Peter Tuddenham Brian:…………Nigel Lambert Davenport:………..Deryck Guyler Jackson:…………Alan Downer Desmond:………..George Benson Fawcett:……….David Spenser Janet:……..Madi Hedd Mrs Harris:………Kathleen Helme Flo:……….Hilda Kriskman West:……….Alan Cotter Bank manager:………..Charles Simon Produced by Glyn Dearman Midweek Theatre: Compensating Error Wed 3rd Sep 1969, 20:15 on BBC Radio 2 .....a play which brings back not-so-happy memories of office life back in the 1960s, with its petty backbiting and intrigues, and which has a nice twist in its tail. Splendid characterisations of two crafty old buffers by Deryck Guyler and George Benson. (-Roger Bickerton). A compensating error is an accounting error that offsets another accounting error. These errors can be difficult to spot when they occur within the same account and in the same reporting period, since the net effect is zero. A statistical analysis of an account may not find a compensating error.

Radio drama, old-time radio and historic broadcasts from the Internet Archive (its Old Time Radio collection with the Old Time Radio Researchers' sets, WWII Era Audio Recordings, the Pacifica Radio Archives, the Radio Haiti Archive, German radio plays and listeners' uploads), Wikimedia Commons (with the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision's broadcasts) and the Library of Congress. Every episode plays from its archive, which this site does not copy; rights are as each archive states them. Nothing here is called public domain on this site's say-so. In the United States, sound recordings first fixed before 15 February 1972 have federal protection under the Music Modernization Act of 2018, for most until 2067 at the latest, so most American radio of the 1930s to the 1950s is not in the public domain there. Each set shows the licence, mark or statement its archive gives, and says whose it is. Horror, crime, war and westerns are for teenage and adult profiles, racist caricature for adults only, and children’s profiles hear what was made for children. More about these archives.
