Netherdrome: Tales Of The Future
Join us in the future…
For action, adventure, mystery, romance, humor and intrigue.
NETHERDROME is a new 13 part radio drama series available exclusively through NPR Playhouse. The series consists of nine complete half-hour stories and two continued stories which range from adventures to love stories, murder stories to comedies, all set 100 years in the future.
Each episode not only tells a complete story, but also explores some social, political, or cultural aspect of this possible future. NETHERDROME has been carefully developed to appeal to the widest possible audience, from lovers of classic radio dramas to young science-fiction fans.
Each episode begins with these words…
> One hundred years in the future.
>
> Through the years, the atmosphere has become
> more and more poisoned,
> the earth has grown increasingly barren.
>
> Yet life goes on.
>
> Some people manage to live on the land,
> but most have retreated to vast mazes of tunnels
> below the festering surface,
> living comfortably in huge subterranean cities.
>
> This is a story from that future,
> A story from the lives of the people on the surface —
> and the citizens of…
> …the NETHERDROME.
Netherdrome was created and written by Barry Anderson, an avid fan of both radio drama and science fiction. He is creative director for an Omaha based advertising agency and has…

Radio drama, old-time radio and historic broadcasts from the Internet Archive (its Old Time Radio collection with the Old Time Radio Researchers' sets, WWII Era Audio Recordings, the Pacifica Radio Archives, the Radio Haiti Archive, German radio plays and listeners' uploads), Wikimedia Commons (with the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision's broadcasts) and the Library of Congress. Every episode plays from its archive, which this site does not copy; rights are as each archive states them. Nothing here is called public domain on this site's say-so. In the United States, sound recordings first fixed before 15 February 1972 have federal protection under the Music Modernization Act of 2018, for most until 2067 at the latest, so most American radio of the 1930s to the 1950s is not in the public domain there. Each set shows the licence, mark or statement its archive gives, and says whose it is. Horror, crime, war and westerns are for teenage and adult profiles, racist caricature for adults only, and children’s profiles hear what was made for children. More about these archives.
