THE ADVENTURES OF HORATIO HORNBLOWER
More about it
The Horatio Hornblower series is based upon the novels by C. S. Forester. They were admired by many fans, including Winston Churchill and Ernest Hemmingway who is quoted as saying, "I recommend Forester to everyone literate I know." The adventures follow the rising career from a young, unpromising, and seasick midshipman who eventually becomes Admiral of The Fleet of the Britain's Royal Navy. The storyline occurs during the Napoleonic era. Although many great naval leaders inspired Hornblower, Forester was careful to place the plots far enough away from actual battles so as not to interfere with history. The 30-minute radio episodes first aired July 7, 1952. Michael Redgrave portrayed Horatio Hornblower. Harry Towers produced the series through his Towers of London syndicate. Although produced in England, BBC was not interested in the series, so it was sent off to the United States. CBS originally broadcast the 52 episodes, until July 17, 1953. It later was rebroadcast by ABC in 1954, and the Mutual Broadcasting System in 1957. From the Old Time Radio Researchers Group. See "Notes" Section below for more information on the OTRR.

Radio drama, old-time radio and historic broadcasts from the Internet Archive (its Old Time Radio collection with the Old Time Radio Researchers' sets, WWII Era Audio Recordings, the Pacifica Radio Archives, the Radio Haiti Archive, German radio plays and listeners' uploads), Wikimedia Commons (with the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision's broadcasts) and the Library of Congress. Every episode plays from its archive, which this site does not copy; rights are as each archive states them. Nothing here is called public domain on this site's say-so. In the United States, sound recordings first fixed before 15 February 1972 have federal protection under the Music Modernization Act of 2018, for most until 2067 at the latest, so most American radio of the 1930s to the 1950s is not in the public domain there. Each set shows the licence, mark or statement its archive gives, and says whose it is. Horror, crime, war and westerns are for teenage and adult profiles, racist caricature for adults only, and children’s profiles hear what was made for children. More about these archives.
