Around the time when Muzak For Cages was associated with German label "Erdenklang", a connection that didn't work as well as it should have, Muzak-founder Andreas-Michael Lucas took the opportunity to write and produce a series of radio-plays for a small local channel. These plays were hailed to be utterly unlistenable. They were too weird to even be presented live on a local stage. Muzak For Cages literarily got banned! But that didn't stop them. The radio-plays went on the air several times and this is a collection of recordings, that were used in "Der Frost Zirkus".

More about it

Some of the recordings were made in the studios of the station, recorded and mastered on chrome-tape-cassettes. The originals were transferred in 2005 to digital, but they all were mixdowns only, so any remixing was impossible. It was decided to keep the compilation private, because they didn't sound appropriate. One main problem was the use of noise reduction systems, another was the compression to MP3 for storage reasons. The negative (audio-) effects of both are very audible on most of these recordings, since these are the last surviving versions.

So every effort had to be taken, to restore, correct, re-EQ, and edit the material from wav-file mixdowns for this compilation.

For those, who may remember the original broadcasts: yes there were some additional recordings that went on the air at the time, but those don't represent best standard in terms of performance. A portion of „Radio Silencio“ was also…

Radio drama, old-time radio and historic broadcasts from the Internet Archive (its Old Time Radio collection with the Old Time Radio Researchers' sets, WWII Era Audio Recordings, the Pacifica Radio Archives, the Radio Haiti Archive, German radio plays and listeners' uploads), Wikimedia Commons (with the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision's broadcasts) and the Library of Congress. Every episode plays from its archive, which this site does not copy; rights are as each archive states them. Nothing here is called public domain on this site's say-so. In the United States, sound recordings first fixed before 15 February 1972 have federal protection under the Music Modernization Act of 2018, for most until 2067 at the latest, so most American radio of the 1930s to the 1950s is not in the public domain there. Each set shows the licence, mark or statement its archive gives, and says whose it is. Horror, crime, war and westerns are for teenage and adult profiles, racist caricature for adults only, and children’s profiles hear what was made for children. More about these archives.
