Early in September a battalion ofthe republican troops revolted, massacred their offic ers, marched to ward-. the coast and threatened Guayaquil; on whiclithe Americans desp itched a messenger to Callao, informing Captain Gregory, of the U. Communicated'] REVIEW. The Pacha cr Many Tales: By the Actiioh Peter Simple, so.—Capt. Maryatt, whose fault is that he writes rather too much, has add ed to Ins Many Tales the Pacha of Many Tales, w'th the perusal of w hich I have been much piodscj. These volumes form most agreeable kght reading. With the Arabian Nights Enter tainments us a model, the author has strung to other with much grace a series ol stories, lull of moving accidents by flo >d and field'’— ‘,re. war, and murder—and descriptions of taen and manners. Occasionally we have a ''orv with enough of Munchausen-isw* about it create a hearty laugh, and now and then vwiething which rivals any of the Adventures n| Gulliver, or Sinbad the Sailor, Capt. Ma O'att may, therefore, be considered, in every of the word, a “good story teller— n,Ke who have followed him through the pages of P•‘ter Simple, Jacob Faithful, and other ^orks of that class, will be disposed not to de iert him in this, Ids latest, effort to amuse the Public. For my own part, l own, I occasional ly ?rew tired of the movements of the author’s n*roes in his former works; but can say that Wariness never overtook me in my rambles x the Pacha and Ids faithful Mustapha, in search 0f (|10 vvonderful.—and, like those two Whies, always entertained a favorable opi u:oaof the Stories, A Reader. COMMERCIAL. BALTIMORE MARKET; Sem1*iceekly Report. Flocr.—We have to note a decline in the price of Howard street Flour. The receipts yesterday and to-day have been large, and in the absence of any demand of moment, and for the want of vessels to take away what would be shipped if the vessels were here,—the market has given way, both in wagon and store price. The prin cipal part of the receipts remains yet to be pric ed, and of the balance the larger portion has been taken at $4.75 as the wagon price, and small lots at S4.S7L Sales from stores have been made at 85, and in some cases at a little less. Sales of City Mills Flour at $5, on 4 months, and at $4.S7£. full. Grain.—There is but little wheat at market vet in the present heavy and declining state of the flour market, prices could not he any long er sustained. Very prime reds are worth about Si per bushel to-day, and other qualities lower in proportion; we quote fair to prime reds at 95 a ion cts. New Corn has been in full supply for some days past, and prices have declined.
