A YOUNG HOUSEBREAKER. This evening, while the Star man was hanging around the mar ket, Deputy Sheriff Ben McCul- lough came on a dead run down the sidewalk and turned into the the market.. The Star man want ed to see what Ben was in such a hurry about. He only had a min ute to wait before Ben reappeared bringing a diminutive coon of eb ony hue, who appeared to be about 14 years old. When the reporter asked Ben to tell him all about it he said it was a short story, but full of color. The boy, who said his name was Pinkney Green, broke into a col ored woman's house, by the name of Sarah Martin, yesterday even ing and played havoc with her property by cutting up clothes, breaking and otherwise destroying her personal effects. The deputy promptly locked up his prisoner. Ben is a holy terror to the col ored population who have anything on their conscience. SNAIX SNAIX SNAIX Sheriff Hodge opens the Star campaign against the venomous reptiles roaming at large among the dense weeds of our fair city. His snakeship was a rattle snake's pilot, and was one of the largest of its kind. Mr. Hodge found it at the rear cf bis premises, just after noon today, and getting his rifle, he dispatched the reptile with one skillful shot. To show how careful we have to be to publish only facts the first report ve had of this occurrence was that Mr. Hodge had shot a rattler eight feet long with 13 rat tles and a button, while in the act of swallowing a dog.
