A Judgment Scene. In one of our scriptures a judg ment scene is described. When the Judge is seated on his throne and before him the people are gathered, he shall say to those upon his right hand "Come, ye blessed of my father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the earth. For I was hungered, and ye gave me meat thirsty, and ye gave me drink; naked, and ye clothed me sick and in prison, and ye visited me." How does this apply to the liquor dealer, manufacturer or seller? Let the Judge ask of the liquor man "Hid you feed the hungry "No. I made the hungry more hungry and took from him the means by which he might have lived' 'Did you give the least of my Drethren drink "Yes. I gave him drink, but in stead of rt freshing him it turned into fire within him and made him less a man. It cursed him," "Did you find him naked and clothed him?" "No. I found him clothed and in his right mind, and I took from him his garments and left him na ked, in poverty and distress." "Did you find him in prison and visit him "No. I found him happy in his liberty, with father, mother, sisters and brothers, or wife and children, active and free and honorable in business, and I lowered him from his freedom and placed him in prison in shame and wretchedness and disgrace." With shamefacedness and a new ly awakened sense of the tremen dous wrong inflicted upon every in terest of life, the liquor traffic must plead guilty to this indictment be fore the bar of heaven and earth. We can make no distinctions of persons in a business which from first to last is corrupt and demoral ized, and which by common con sent begets more misfortunes than all other causes combined. It can be improved only by being aban doned and while we wish to re spect the bonds of our common humanity, we will respect individ ual men only when they shall wash their hands of the tremendous evil and swear by the sanctities of life that they will no more of it.
