CongrcMl on a 1. Washington, June fl.—Senate— Williams reported with amendments a bill, granting lands to aid the con struction of a canal for irrigating pur poses, in California. Joint resolutions to increase the pay of assistant census Marshals were passed. The bill to repeal all laws authorising the transportation and exportation of goods, wares and mer charidlxe, in bond to Mexico, over land, or by inland waters, which, as stabs! by Chandler, would save six million dollars to the treasury annu ally, was passed. The Indian appro priation bill was debated until recess, and some amendments were made. House.—Prosser introduced a reso lution authorizing the President to submit propositions to the Spanish government for the settlement of the difficulties In Cuba, by arbitration or otherwise. Referred. Sargent Introduced a bill granting the right of way in California for a canal for Irrigation and other pur poses. Johnson Introduced a bill granting pre-emption rights to the settlers on certain lands in California. Oregon Klcctlon. Ban Francisco, June 6.—Returns from the Oregon election are very meagre. Indications are that the legislative contest will be close. Grover, Democratic candidate for Governor, will probably bo elected by a thousand majority. A Portland telegram says the election passed off quietly. The city and county went Republican by about three hundred. The State Is considered dose. All young married people or those contemplat 1 ne time appointed for the special election in San Francisco, to determine whether the city will donate one million of dollars towards the construction of the Southern Pa cific Railroad. There is a stubborn opposition to the donation, arising from the fact, that the Southern Pa cific is only another name for the Central Pacific Company, which it is alleged, owns all the railroads in the j State, and which, it is feared, will ob- I tain supreme control of the southern route from the Pacific const to the 1 oast, paralyzing and destroying all healthy competition. —Specimens of now silver coinage 1 of the denominations of ten, twenty five, and fifty cents have just been is sued from the Philadelphia mint, and submitted to the Treasury Dcpart inent for approval.
