COUNTY OFFICIAL PAPER. 1 1 'J ^'k m tllE AlVAKCDlVrn* CANE. J i Fall Text of the Vovernor'a De. clvlon. Following it? the Governor's decision iu lull in the Anarchists' cuse: Static or Ills., Execu iVe Office, Spcingfield, Nov. 10, 1887. j On the 20tii Uuy of Aagust, 1886, in tbe Cook County Criminal Conrt, Aug ust Spies, Albert It. Parsons, Samuel Fieldeu, Michael Schwab, Adolph Fisch er, George Engel and Louis Luigg were found gu.lty by the. yerdict of a jury, uud afterwards sentenced to be hanged tor the murder 'of Tdaltbias J. Degau. Au uppeul was taken from such liuding and sentence to the Supreme Court of the State. That Court upon final hear ing aud alter mature deliberation unan imously affirmed the judgmeut of the Court below. Tbe case now comes be fore me by petition of the defendants for consideration as Governor of the the Stale. If the letters of Albert Parsons, Adolph Fischer, George Engel and Louis Lingg. deuiuuding uncon ditional release, or as they express it, "Liberty or Death," and protesting in u the strongest language nguiust mercy or commutation o the sentence pronounced against tbeui, cau be considered peti t ona for pardon, the granting of the name, if implying any guilt whutever on the part of either of theui, would not be *uch a vindication an they demand. Executive intervention upon the ground* initiated upon by the four above named persona could iu no proper Henae lie deemed an exercise of the constitu tioual power to grant reprieves, com luutatioua and paidona unless used upon the belief on my part of tbeir en tire innocence of the crime of which the stund convicted. A careful con sideration of the evideuce in the record of the trial of.the parlies as Well as of all ullcged and claimed for them outside of (he record, has faiLd to produce on my mind any impression teuding to im peach the verdict of the jury or the judgment of the trial Court or of the Supreme Court affirming the guilt of all ihese parties. (Satisfied therefore as I am of th.?[White Pine News. A gentleman lately from Austin, Ne vada, informs the Carson Tribune that the once populous mining town is near ly depopulated and that fumiliep who have resided there for years are com pelled to seek other pluces for a liveli hood.
