First, That the disease called Si RU'TUBK, isqf very frequent occurrence and often exists in persons who are not in the lean aware nf it; ntrl that a very erroneous notion prevails respecting Stricture, and that ignnrant advertising people taki a had advantage of this erroneous notion; then, that there an three particular circumstance* by whtLh a Stricture may hi .uiays known?and in the last place, that the curt of Stric tart h cert-iin, free from pain, and generally accomplishes in a very little lime. With regard to the first of their remarks:? It is well known that Stricture la thr result of a badly treatrrrhea IT, for instance, that disease is suffered to con VMM on from month to monlli. it slides iu'o a ileet. Now there is no pain or inconvenience in gleet, and therefore it ii often smfered to remain indefinitely. But ll should be knowi that gleet implies achronic inflammation oflhe jiassage, which uatnrally teiinitiates in thickening, and this thickening at oik part or other of the passage is stricture and, further, lhat al though stricture may thus re nam unnoticed for a length of t innit if far from liying dormant, bui is the hidden cause of mail) serious maladies, not only of a srrual, but those also of a ucr ous and dyspeptic kind. But what especially leadi the attention off from thii disordei is the idea that stricture cannot exist so long as no impediment to the flow of urine is observed, which is quite a mistake. A stnotnre often eiists for years without producing any verj striking change in this resjiect; indeed a diminished or inter rupted stream of urine belongs only to the worn of cases, am it is to prevent this very state that these remarks are published The advantage, however, which ignorant advertising peoph take ofthis erroneous notion is icry cruel. Every body know; how men of this discription swarin about this city, and tha they will sell their nostrums as long as anyone will buy them Now, it is a fact, and one which every real physician will irn mediately ackno* ledge, that all the medicine in the world alone, can never c?re a stricture. In proof of this, nothing i more common tha for the writer to be consulted by |>erson: who have been tal ng all manner of things?as co'.Jred uropi and pills, and cordials, and the like, for many monins togetl.er but whom, on teeing the real nature of the caie, lie has cureoseti ro sine lure than another j but, is a general rule, if it shoaltl be suireret to g on beyond *11 wcfk*, tnis alone would afford lufRcien ground, at least, fur the suspicion of a stricture. The last is? The a tfricturt hat upon the mind.?The effect o Stricture is to depress the spirits, and to lessen both bodily ant mental activity. This also is one of its most common effects Not, however, that it is seen alike in every individual, hut it 11 so common that tH subject it is snf ficient to observe (and it is stated with confidence and plea sure) that this is certain, free from pain, and generally accom plished in a very littl* time. 80 much as this could not bin bet n {advanced som years ago; but such has been the nn prwvemeM in this art, and such the practical ei|>erietice of !ht writer, that he can now accomplish the curecf stricture to ai many nays as formerly it demanded months. Tht writer also begs to state,'that for th?*se who wish to un dertake The cure themselves, he has published a little volume r.al?ed M The Private Treat ittiti which not only stricture but the cure of mil those delicate diseases which re juire espe c?al carc and priv .cv, is directed in tht plainest manner. It ii advisable, however, that those who suspect a stricture, if possi ble, should onsult the anthor personally and nothing willsur prise them m?>re than the case and ci rtainty of his means o cure. Separate rooms, also, are arranged for those who may have to wait a little.
