DESTITUTION AND STARVATION IN GEORGIA Wasuraron, Toesday, June 20, 1966, THE TARIFF BILL, The Tariff bili finished at the Government privac®’s this morniog, but the pullic were unalle to have it Was com Jete until Tue Trimuxe arrived, when the eutire number sent here were quickly bought up to send Westward, The House ordered 1,000 copies of the Tarif! bill to be printed in pamphlet form for circ lation by members, and 500 of the present Parifl for the same purpose. The Pennsylvania bituminucus coal miners are not satis fied with the duty of 20 cents per tun, and wil ‘make strenu- 50. They at firet asked 82, They now pay over 50 cents in the shape of Iuternal Revenue ous efforts to have it raised to £1 taxes before their coal reaches the seaboard, The owners of oi] presses ju New Esgland are here to op- pose tbe duty on hnseed, which was put on at the request of Western men, They ellege that their presses must stop if the duty is put on seed, and the West say they cannot raise the seed if they are pot protected, The iron wen are not at all satisfied with the daties on iror, steel, Lc. The Democrats will nearly sl! oppose the Tard bill, and several are #0 bold as to declare that the President will veto it if passed, PASSAGE OF THE FREEDMENR'S VUREAU BILL. The Freedmnen's Bureau bill kept a bare quorum in their seats. It wont throogh the Senate, after theaccustomed Democratic opposition, without the Yeas and Nays. Tt differs in essential particulars from the forw in which it passed the House. A Committee of Conference will probably be ealied for to settle disputed pointe, CHANCES FOR THE BANKRUPT BILL. The Senate Commitiee on Judiciary will to-mor- row take up the House Bankrupt bill for consideration. Its ohavces are very filnt, A Committee of New-York Bank Presidents are bere, to try apd get some retiel from what they deem oppressive loca taxation. They were before the House Baok Committee to-day. THE TAX BILL. The Tax bill, as amended by the Senate, was to- day taken up in the House and refiried w the Ways and Means Commitee, 1t will not probably be considered and re- ported back to the House for several days, THE PACIFIC RAILROAD, The House spent the afternoon upou the Senate hill 10 allow the California Central Railroad to come eastward as fast as they ean buill the road, aid to allow the Kansas braveh of the Union Pacific Kailrowd to keep on doe west after they reach Fort Riley, which they expect to do within tbe next 40 days. They go direct to Denver City, in Colorado, and thence to Salt Lake City, Utah, They also contemplate running a braneh soathward from a point east of Denver City toward Santa Fé, New- Mexico, This company is in the hands of the Penusylvania Central Railroad and their westera con nections, and is now a continuous gauge from New-York sad Philadelphia to near Fort Riley, Kansas, with only ove un- bridged river intervening at St. Louis, which will soon be bridged, when there will eventnslly be one contingous rall from the Atlantic to the Pacific. The bill now goes to the President for his signature. The op- position to the bill was not very formidalle, ond consisted of members from New England, part of New-York, Northern Onto, part of Michigan, Wiseousin, and Towa, while sll that territory doe east of Kansas went nearly sclid for the ll. A number of attempts were made to get the bill amended in some shape, 80 that it would have to be sent back to the Senate, or to get it referred to the House Pacific Railroad Committee, whieh Committee will not be called again this session, but Mr, Stevens was ready to answer ell objections, and ivsisted on having no amendments, and bad kis bill passed by the upex- pectedly large vote of 97 toj36. It is considered quite a tri pmph for Lim, ws but a few days ago the Omaba or Nebraska line seemed confident that no such privileges would be granted to these companies. There is evidently a very large majority of both Houses determined to grant whatever leghlation is necessary to insure the early completion of a railroad to the gold and siiver mining regious, as well as to connect the waters of the two oceans.
