Special Cable Despatch to Tho Evening World I THE STADllM LONDON July LL1 1lie bojs of the American team are In fine corailltlon and ihoy are doing all that was expected from them ami I a little bit more Those stars who are to compete In the events listed be fore the great meet cornea to a close are In recordbreaking form and the others will give a good account of themselves There should be about three events In which they will possibly figure one two nnd three That I should make our score eijutil If not excel all the polnl made by tho other nineteen competing nations In the track and field events A better feeling has shown Itself between the Americans and their opponents lue doubtless to the eleventh hour tendency on the part of the British to listen to reasonable proposals There Is no denying that they are behind the times hero In the mutter of athletic regulations but tho best satisfaction a chap gets when he suggests this Is that those rules have Jone us for fifty years you know A good deal of the dissatisfaction that was displayed by our team nnd I tho other vlslors could have been avoided If tho prcjner steps were taken before the meet to go carefully over the rules governing the contests This I should have been done for us by the American Commissioner who was on I he ground two weeks before tho games were started or by the alleged manager of our team Tho disagreeable tilts that arose might have been avoided had this precaution been taken The only bltternesu displayed by the boys of the IrishAmerican Ath letic Club Is shown toward Leahy of Dublin who competed for the Inlted Kingdom in the high jump Morgan of the New York Athletic Club who also competed for the United Kingdom Walsh of the IrishAmerican Ath eric Club of New York also In Kne for the United Kingdom and Koche of the Gaelic A A whoso score likewise goes to John Bull All four of those men claim that they are scoring xInA for Ireland but this contention while patriotic Is not practical because the very object they seek la d3 rtated by themselves The Irishmen want to beat England and the only way they could do that would be to stay at home The eight and onethird points scored by those four men wero taken from the American team and recorded for England No amount of patriotic argument can change that fact American Athletes Gain Bis Lead in London Games Coptlnu1 from
