The Young Man: A Monthly Journal and Review, Volume 8 (1894)
Frederick A. Atkins (London)
A bound collection of the twelve issues of Volume VIII of the magazine The Young Man: A Monthly Journal and Review. Edited and published by Frederick A. Atkins, the issues cover January 1894 through December of the same year. The issues are bound without covers or wraps, so any advertising (it it was present) is missing here. The journal is clearly affiliated with the YMCA (Young Men's Christian Association), not least because this particular binding includes a bookplate from the YMCA in Springfield, Massachusetts. However, not all articles and items are YMCA-focused; it is not a trade magazine or newsletter, but does appear to be aiming for a broader appeal, with interviews of famous men (including Dr. Arthur Conan Doyle), a series entitled "My First Sermon", serialized fiction like "Kit Kennedy, Ne'er Do Well" and "Doctor Dick", essays on microscopes and telescopes, and so on. Scanned at 600dpi, 24-bit color, then algorithmically deskewed and manually cropped to a consistent page size throughout. The volume is provided as a series of 13 PDF files, the first being the cover and front matter (an index of the volume) and the remainder being the individual issues. Note that each issue (as bound) begins with a single-sided verso frontis portrait, which will appear here with the blank recto page at the start.
