SUMMONED FOR LIBEL. | Some time ago Lord Durham made an un- successful application to the courts for the annullment of his marriage on the ground that his wife was insane when he married her. To-day a summons was granted Lord Durham against the owner of the paper, Bat, for libel in stating that Lord Durham’s brutality drove his wife mad. A severe gale prevails throughout Great Britain to-day. A CABLE CONFERENCE. Sir John Pender, chairman of the Direct United States Cable Company, has invited the cable companies to hold a conference for the purpose of fixing upon à tariff on a basis of l shilling per word. Ireland, ALMOST A RIOT. DUBLIN, January 28.—Rev. Father McFadden and Mr. Alexander Blane, members of Parlila- ment, who were arrested for alleged violations of the crimes act, were removed from the jail at Londonderry at 5 o’clock this morning, and taken to Dunfanaghy, County Donegal, where they will be tried. A crowd gathered outside the jail lastevening and remained ali night, cheering continuously. A few stones were thrown at the police as the prisoners de- parted, by persons in the crowd. Fears are en- tertained that the trouble will increase. A LARGE PRINTING ESTABLISHMENT AT SPRINGFIELD, ILL., BADLY GUTTED. State-Printer Rokker Burned Out—A Heavy Loss—The Chattanooga Commercial Of- fice Destroyed—A Seminary Scorched— Business Block Burned. o’clock this morning the great printing and binding establishment of H. W. R. Bokker was discovered to be on fire. Two engines are still at work, but the building,machinery aud stock are a total loss. The plant was one of the most complete in the West, and the esti- mated loss is over $75,000, on which the insurance was $35,000 The firm was carrying large eee among which were the Supreme Court reports of Illinois almost completed, on which the insurance had lapsed, loss $10 000; the State Election Regist ers; the Canal Commissioners Reports; various ‘small jobs from different State offices, and large private contracts, the value of which can not be estimated. It is not yet known whether the large vault in which valuable plates were stored, is intact. The origin of the fire is unknown, as the building was in flames when discovered. Partially Destroyed.
