As Private Avial he n not an- swer accusations brought against Senor de Villiaueva for embezzling $500,000, deposited by his society friends with ‘the Paris branch of the National City Bank. He was desperate when he en- listed in the Spanish Foreign Le- gion, he explained. But now. through friends, he is pleading that his hasty enlistment be set aside, and that he be allowed to come back to Paris to face the charges. So powerful influences are being set to work to obtain his re- lease. It is not certain, however, that they will succeed. Diplomatic formalities will have to be gone through. For above all there is the fear of both the French and Spanish authorities of setting a precedent by appearing to break faith with the, soldiers of their For- eign Legions, which would have a sears found several soft spots ' | went far toward unsettling the market, and hopes that the day i result in a breaking through of the resistance levels encountered y the rally on July 18 were dis- appointed.
