WILL FLY THE RIVER Lambert Predicts Grand Spectacle for Everybody in the City. TWO CUPS HIS - PRIZE Cash Bonus to Be Provided for Baldwin, Who Will Give Exhibition. The success of the Post-Dispatch's plan to bring Clifford B. Harmon and Capt. Thomas 8. Baldwin to St. Louis Sept. 10 for a historic aeroplane flight along the river front and for a three days’ aviation exhibition, free to the public, has been assured by the co- operation of business organizations and public officials. The committee appointed to arrange for the events met at the Bust- ness Men's League headquarters at 2:30 p. m. Wednesday. Hdward Devoy is chairman of the committee, W. F. Saunders secretary, and the members are O. L. Whitelaw, acting president of the league; M. W. Cachrane, presi- dent of the Merchants’ Exchange; C. F. Blanke, president of the Million Club; H. W.. Peters, president of the Missouri Manufacturers’ Association; Sam D. Capen, president of the Auto- mobile Club; Albert Bond Lambert, president of the Aero Club; Matt G. Reynolds, president of the Police Board; Robert McCulloch, president of the United Railways Co.; Philip C. Scanlan, Park Commissioner; Joseph P. Whyte, Harbor Commissioner; Ben Adkins Jr., Water Commissioner; James E. Davenport, chairman of the St. Louis. Passenger Agents’ As- sociation, and George S. Johns of the Post-Dispatch. Z Hearty indorsement of the plan was given at the meeting at the Mer- eantile Club Tuesday afternoon, at which it was outlined to a company including those named on the com- mittee, as well as Acting Mayor Gundlach and Surveyor of the Por! Gallenkamp. ' Geld Cup to Be Awarded. In addition to the gold cup which the Post-Dispatch will award Harmon for a successful flight of the river front, from the Chain of Rocks to Carondelet, the committee wilk arrange for a cup to be presented on behalf of the citizens of U.S. SUBTREASURY In a raucous voice, he announced him.

The Post Dispatch will defrs. . expenses of the river front flight a. of the field events. Harmon, who is inde- pendently wealthy, desires no reward except trophies for his flights, but Balda- win makes his living by aeronautics and for this reason the business men decid- ed to offer him a cash bonus. Both Harmon and Baldwin are well known in St. Louis. Baldwin showed, at the World's Fair, the first successfu! dirigible seen in this city. Harmon was a contestant in the Centennial balloon races of last October. Both have within the past year turned their attention from ballooning to aviation. Baldwin has already placed himself in“first rank among practical aeroplane operators, and Har- mon has placed himself tn the froat rank of bird-men by his daring flights. The latest of these, made last Satur- day, was across Long Island and Long Island Sound, from Mineola, N. Y., Greenwich, Conn., tn his plane. to Farman bi- Field to Be Discussed. The location of the aviation field for ‘the flights of Harmon and Baldwin is to be determined by the Business Men's Committee. Baldwin. who is fa- miliar with the Forest Park course, has declared that it would be suitable, as the River des Peres is not an obstacle, in view of the advances made in th+ past year in the science of flying. * Park Commissioner Scanian has de- clared that the park is open to events which are free to the public. President ‘Lambert of the Aero Club has doubts as to the feasibility of the park field.,. and this matter will be discussed at _, Wednesday afternoon's meeting. A telegram was sent to Harmc 1 es- day evening, requesting him to send a _ fepresentative here to co-operate in the choice of a field. Invitations to him ana ‘Baldwin, coupled with the offer of prizes I gE 5 . ; °

ALBERT B. LAMBERT BELIEVES HARMON WILL SUCCEED IN FLYING ALONG MISSISSIPPI IF HE TRIES BY ALBERT BOND LAMBERT, F Harmon comes here to fly the river front, he will fly the river front. The people of St. Louis have never had the opportunity to see such a sight as Harmon’s flight of the riverfront will afford. Nor have the people of most other cities. Chicago, Philadelphia and Boston have made at New York and on Long Island know that aviation. amounts to something, and that it is making wonderfully rapid progress. O far as I can see, conditions for a river-front flight are most fa- vorable. There is a good starting or landing place at either end of the course, particularly at the north end, the Chain of Rocks Park. When I was in the East a short time ago, I talked with Harmon about flying here, and told him I would give him a gold cup if he would fly the river front, The time I mentioned was that of the other aviation I am glad the Post-Dispatch has been able to persuade him to come here in September, for the few days before the 15th, when he is to be a contestant in the national balloon race from Indianapolis. thorough sportsman, who flies for the love of flying, and he will not in any avoidable way disappoint the people of St. Louis. lub of St. Louis.
