Young Women Like to Get a Contribution From Employer. HERE are young women who “just know” \ they themselves understand their employ- er’s moods better and know how to ap- proach him for a subscription better than anyone else could. There were employers also who could not under- stand what seemed to be an arbitrary ruling de- signed to take the credit of building the Y.- W. C. A. clubhouse away from its owners, making them helpless objects of charity. One employer, determined that his stenographer should have credit in her report for his con- tribution, gave $100 in the name of his infant daughter. Various other evasions df the rule were practiced and all sorts of excuses made and con- cessions asked of the officers in charge by the women who wanted to ask employers for money. But few such exceptions were made. Uf, indeed, it was agreed by the Ways and Means Committee, with their assistant experts on “philanthropic rating,” that the employer in qiestion is really of a type immune to the appeal of a woman of his own. financial Or -social set, then a shrewd business man is sent to him. Whatever team brings in the most, We'll all ‘be there to praise it. And then there is a song the refrain of which, may be heard any time as it has caught on up and down the street: 7 In the whole creation There’s no association Where the girls are having so much fun; And we'll all be in clover When the campaign’s over And our building is begun.
