KEEPS A ROGUES’ GALLERY TO TRACK HER RUNAWAY HUSBAND | 2 NEW YORK, Feb. 10.—A report of the Thumb-Print Bureau of the New York police today shows the bureau occasion- ally has some unusual demands made upon it. One of the most curious came recently from a woman who asked the bureau to make a print from the thumbs of a man who accompanied her. “J want his thumb prints for identif- cation,” said the woman. “We are going to be married tomorrow. He is my third husband. The other two ran away and I had a hard time to find them because there was no sure way of iden- tifying them. I intend to be on the safe side this time. President George Warren Brown of the Brown Shoe Co., and the officers of the Wertheimer-Swarts Shoe Co. and made explanations. At the Hamilton-Brown Shoe Co. the principal officers were found to be absent from tne city, and no one was there to receive the apology. Councilman Schutz received one of the petitions at his home. As he had talked but a little while before with Henry W. Peters of the Peters Shoe Co., and knew his views, he was surprised to find the hame of the Peters Co. attached to the petition. Schutz communicated with Peters to know why he had so suddenly changed his mind. He then learned of the un- authorized use of the names of the shoe house. Copies of Address. Enclosed with the petition were cop- les of the “Address by the Shippers’ Committee,” presented to the Rail- roads Commnittee of the House of Dele- gates, and signed by Murray Carteton, George. W. Simmons. Edward Devoy, Prana “ Thev are being reproduced with do- smestic trimming for a mere bagatelle— a> to $100. Hats to Have More Tilt. Beside the more pretentious hats, deal- eTs are showing a varied assortment of beaddress in coarse straw effects. These hats are made in all conceivable shapes, most of them exaggerations of previous styles. The rakish angles of former seasons are accentuated by larger and more abrupt tilts, producing startling swashbuckling effects. A three-cornered hat that is selling fast is known as the “Little Corporal.”’ It was designed to go with the military coats and is decorated with red velvet and brass buttons. Besides Chantilly lace, which is used on all the larger hats, velvets in large bows seem to have the call as trimming. | Bright colors are being used almost ex- ousively, cocquelicot red and royal blue | being among the more popular. All large hats are flat, but to be strictly up to date these hats must tilt upward from the face. In black hats, poppies &re used extensively, scarlet being con- sidered a'most indispensible. to whether a thing should be pro- hibited ‘on’ Sunday is, from ‘the standpoint of government, a ques- tion of public morals and good gov- ernment, not of religion. Bull-fighting and prize-fighting are Peat tolerated: at -all .in. the sane Louis police, under Folk’s instructions. “She was allowed to speak without interference,”’ he writes, ‘“‘and she found the experience so tame that, after un- eventful meetings, she left for some place where the police, by oppression, would give her more notoriety.” Me arriages, Births, Deaths BURIAL PoRMITS.
