Cowboy Comics Library 095 [n.d., circa 1950s] ("Buck Jones") (Bogof39)
Cowboy Comics Library 095 [n.d., circa 1950s] "Buck Jones". Artists: Story #1, art by Charles Roylance; Story #2, art by D. Gale; Story #3, art by Tom Laidler. 468 issues of " Cowboy Picture Library " were published from April 1950 to September 1962. Starting as " Cowboy Comics Library " (mainly featuring the fictional exploits of real-life American B-Movie Western star Buck Jones), it would change the title somewhat over the years, at first having a rotating roster of heroes such as Kit Carson, Davy Crockett, and the Kansas Kid, till by the end of its run turning to single character issues while keeping the numbering, theme, and form. As with other comics from Fleetway in the 50’s, it was a 64 page digest sized comic with color covers and black & white interiors. At first Fleetway wanted to make this their first comic to be published in the same dimensions as American comics (as so much of it at first was coming from reprints of American Western comics). However, the potential costs for switching to the larger format proved to be prohibitive.
