Episode Chargers Defense Ranks 3rd in the NFL in Takeaways — So How Are They 0-6?
The Los Angeles Chargers defense ranks among the NFL’s elite in takeaways, yet the team remains winless at 0-6. Despite tying for third in the league with 10 takeaways—powered by standouts like rookie safety Genesis Smith and edge rusher Akheem Mesidor—the Chargers offense has struggled, racking up 15 turnovers and only averaging 15 points per game. Can Justin Herbert and the Chargers offense finally capitalize on the short fields their defense provides?
Akheem Mesidor, taken 22nd overall out of Miami, continues to impress with 2.5 sacks and 22 tackles, but must boost his sack totals to enter the Defensive Rookie of the Year race alongside favorites David Bailey and Arvell Reese. With 11 games left starting against the Rams, Mesidor’s relentless motor could make him a breakout rookie—or just another bright spot on a struggling Chargers squad. Will this defense-driven team turn things around by converting turnovers into victories?
