Episode The Janissary Revolt That Hung a Grand Vizier
In Episode 221, Lucas and Luna explore the violent climax of the Ottoman civil war in 1622. After Sultan Osman II was deposed by his own Janissaries, he attempted to regain power through a secret alliance with the Crimean Khanate. The episode details the brutal discovery of this plot, the execution of his allies, and the horrific fate awaiting him and his Grand Vizier, Davud Pasha. We examine how the military corps, empowered by their role in palace coups, turned on their sovereign, marking a decisive shift in the balance of power between the throne and the army. This narrative focuses on the personal betrayal, the political maneuvering involving Mehmed IV's brief restoration, and the chilling methods used to eliminate dissent within the Topkapi Palace walls.
