Episode The Queen of the Bosphorus: Byzantium's Naval Might
In this milestone episode, Lucas and Luna dive into the waters of the Bosphorus to explore the Byzantine navy — the fleet that guarded Constantinople for centuries. From the fiery terror of Greek fire to the daring raids of the Rus, they uncover how a chain across the Golden Horn and a well-timed flame thrower could turn the tide of empires. They trace the navy's rise under Justinian, its near-total collapse in the 7th century, and its remarkable recovery under the Macedonian dynasty. Along the way, they meet the dromon, the sleek warship that ruled the waves, and the mysterious siphon that sprayed liquid fire. But the Byzantines weren't alone — their rivals, the Arabs, built fleets to match, leading to epic naval sieges of Constantinople. This episode also reveals the human side: the rowers, the admirals, and the cunning strategies that kept the Queen of Cities afloat. Expect Greek fire, the Varangians, and a story of resilience that echoes through history.
