香港は、清朝末期の割譲を経てイギリス統治下で自由港として発展し、戦後にはアジアの四小龍の一つとして急成長を遂げました。1997年の中国返還以降は「一国二制度」の下で資本主義体制が維持されてきましたが、近年では国家安全維持法の施行などにより政治・社会体制の大きな転換期を迎えています。一方で、世界的な国際金融センターとしての高い機能や流動性を保ちながら、深圳や広州を含むグレーターベイエリア構想を通じて中国本土経済との結びつきをますます強めています。
