Episode 'Hedda,' 'The Mastermind,' 'The Baltimorons,' And What's Giving Us Good Vibes | SEATED Podcast | Ep. 9
Hosts Tre'vell Anderson and Ray Love Jr. uncork the champagne for Nia DaCosta's (director of Candyman and The Marvels) intoxicating, gender-swapped, and queer-infused reimagining of Henrik Ibsen's classic play, HEDDA.
Starring Tessa Thompson in a career-defining turn as the titular, manipulative newlywed, alongside Nina Hoss (as her former lover, Eileen Lovborg), Imogen Poots, and Tom Bateman, the film transposes the high-stakes drama to a single, explosive night at a lavish 1950s English country estate.
Ray and Tre'vell dive into the film's bold exploration of identity, emotional repression, and the desperate, destructive pursuit of freedom within the gilded cage of high society. Does DaCosta's sharp, stylish vision—which has been likened to a modern psychological thriller—breathe vital new life into a theatrical legend, or does the period setting constrain her daring feminist perspective?
Tune in for their verdict: is this sumptuous, character-driven drama a "Seated," "Stream It," or a "Skip It?" Plus, the hosts share what's giving them good vibes this week and play the Black Cinema Games!
