Former Division I Coach Michael Burcin joins Golf Mom Mindset for an honest conversation about what it really takes to play college golf.
After 17 years coaching at powerhouse programs like University of South Carolina and University of Wisconsin, and now working with elite juniors through Under Par Consulting, Michael has recruited, coached, and mentored countless college athletes.
In this episode, he shares:
• What separates successful college players from talented juniors • Why multi-sport athletes often thrive at the next level • The truth about burnout (and when it shows up) • NIL explained for golf parents • Recruiting red flags coaches quietly notice • How independence — not rankings — predicts long-term success • What parents should (and shouldn’t) say after a round
Michael also explains why learning to fail early, managing time well, and not being defined by golf are critical traits for athletes who succeed both on the course and in the classroom.
If your junior golfer has college ambitions, this episode is packed with perspective you won’t hear anywhere else.
