Ellora, särskilt Kailasatemplet i grotta 16, är ett enormt tempel uthugget direkt ur berget och brukar kopplas till Rashtrakutakungen Krishna I på 700-talet.
Det märkliga är att templet inte byggdes sten för sten, utan höggs fram uppifrån och ned ur en enda bergmassa, vilket gör det tekniskt extremt imponerande.
Alternativa teorier säger ibland att arbetet var för avancerat för sin tid och därför måste ha krävt förlorad teknik, okända byggmetoder eller hjälp utifrån.
Den mest extrema teorin är att templet skulle ha koppling till utomjordiska besökare.
