Episode Lipedema, Miscarriage & Building Bored George with Georgia Patten

No matter how well you eat or how hard you exercise, our bodies don't always play by the rules. In this raw and expansive episode, Jess and Kat are joined by Georgia Patten, the founder and creative force behind the beloved eyewear brand Bored George. Known for her honesty on social media, George opens up about the real, behind-the-scenes realities of scaling a business from a bedroom side hustle into a thriving global brand, all while navigating motherhood and navigating her own chronic health journey.

For the first time publicly, George shares her recent diagnosis with lipedema, a chronic, progressive adipose tissue condition that affects roughly 10 to 15 percent of women, yet remains widely unrecognised and frequently misdiagnosed as standard weight gain. She recounts years of following strict nutritional plans and high-intensity exercise without seeing changes in her lower half, only to be repeatedly offered GLP-1 weight loss injections by GPs rather than genuine investigation. From finding relief through a lymphatic drainage specialist to managing deep, throbbing night pain with vibration plates, dry brushing, and movement, George sheds light on the reality of living in a body that requires unique care.

The conversation also ventures into George’s heartbreaking experience with early pregnancy loss and the jarring lack of empathy she faced within the healthcare system during one of the most vulnerable weeks of her life.

Together with Jess and Kat, they dive into the messy reality of running a growing business alongside raising babies, managing cash flow, and making bold commercial pivots. It is an honest, validating conversation about trusting your gut, advocating for your health, and letting go of the exhausting pressure for women's bodies to look or function like anyone else's.
