ثم يستحيل كل هذا جحيمًا وتصرخ النساء ، وسرعان ما يظهر الجنود .. الجنود شقر الشعور زرق العيون الذين يلبسون السراويل القصيرة .. الزى الرسمى للإنجليز فى مستعمراتهم الحارة ، ويصرخ أحد الضباط آمرًا الجند بفتح النار ، وتنهمر الطلقات .. إنه لمشهد لا يصدق .. و( عبير ) لم تعتد قط أن ترى الرصاص يُطلق على مظاهرة بهـذا الشكل الفج .. أيـن الغازات والعصى المكهربة والطلقات المطاطيـة ؟ الضحايا يتسـاقطون بالعشرات وتتبعثر الصفوف : كأنما هى مياه جدول ألقى فيها طفل شقى بحجارته.
