Episode Cocaine, Magic Mushrooms & Beautiful Camels - Fareed Khimani | Coffee Pump (E114)
Konnichiwa Fam, On E114, I sit down with Coffee Pump Regular, Fareed Khimani.
Fareed is an Ad director, former radio man, and addiction counselor at Full Circle, who is also a recovering addict with 23 years of active addiction behind him.
We start light with his ad work and the creative process, then the conversation goes somewhere we've never taken the show before: his first line of cocaine in an Atlanta bar, smoking crack, ayahuasca showing him what he needed to see, and what he's learned helping addicts in Nairobi today.
We talk about:
– Fareed's recent ad projects and how directing commercials actually works
– The Westgate attack and mall security in Kenya
– The team's mushroom trip, ayahuasca and DMT
– His first time trying cocaine and 23 years of active addiction
– Why cocaine hooks people faster than almost anything else
– LSD, molly and the comedowns nobody talks about
– Weed culture in Kenya vs abroad
– Meth, crack vs cocaine, heroin and the Golden Triangle
– Pakistan's opium crisis and addiction cycles starting in infancy
– Physical vs emotional addiction and jails, institutions or death
– When to help an addict, when to step back, and why they have to be ready
This is a heavy one in places, but an important one. If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction, reach out for help.
Hope you enjoy the episode.
Best,
