Episode Mike McRoberts Reflects On Redundancy And Identity
This summer we’re revisiting some of our biggest conversations, and Mike McRoberts’ story still hits hard. After more than 40 years in journalism and two decades fronting the 6pm bulletin, Mike found himself reporting on something he never expected: his own redundancy.
In this chat, Mike takes us inside the shock of Newshub ending, the surreal moment of announcing his own fate on air, and the emotional whiplash of becoming the story after decades of telling them. He talks openly about identity, pride, leadership in tough moments, and why he was determined the team would finish with mana.
