Episode Sunday SoulDay Interviews Juan Fernandez, Transition Coach for Athletes (Ep. 4)

0:00 1:04:24

Sunday SoulDay interviews Soul Fueler Juan M. Fernandez, Former Pro Basketball Player and Transition Coach for Athletes. Join us as we dive into many topics: his career, family, self-awareness and mindset, how he helps athletes transition from life after sports, to book recommendations and more.

Some Takeaways

• Juan discusses the struggles former athletes experience when transitioning from having their sport as their identity to finding themselves and a greater purpose. • He notes the lack of structure and self starting an athlete encounters after years of being told what do to, where to be and how to get things done. • A helpful tool: Juan asking clients to think of a few people in their lives they trust to give honest feedback about themselves. This technique allows the client to use the information shared by loved ones as a sounding board to gain greater self awareness and an identity outside of being “only” an athlete or former athlete.

About Juan Juan M. Fernandez is a Life Coach and former professional basketball player for Pallacanestro Trieste of the Italian LegaBasket Serie A. With over a decade of experience playing basketball at the collegiate (Temple University) and professional level in Europe, Juan understands the unique challenges and transitions that come with this type of career and lifestyle. After retiring from basketball at age 31, he spent a year searching for a new path before discovering his passion for life coaching. Juan earned his coaching certification through the Jay Shetty certification school.

As a husband and father of two, Juan knows firsthand the importance of living a fulfilling and purposeful life beyond sports by understanding your priorities and making decisions accordingly. He is dedicated to helping others navigate their own transitions and discover their best selves, both on and off the court. With a personal understanding of the mental and emotional challenges that come with transitioning from a career in sports, Juan is committed to empowering his clients to identify their strengths, create a clear vision for their future, and take actionable steps toward achieving their goals.

Whether you’re a current or retired professional athlete or someone looking for guidance in your life and career, Juan is here to help you find joy and purpose in the next chapter of your journey.
