Episode Growing Up Buttafuoco: Jessie Buttafuoco on Living in the Shadow of the Long Island Lolita Scandal
In 1992, a 17-year-old girl named Amy Fisher shot Mary Jo Buttafuoco on the doorstep of her Long Island home — igniting one of the most infamous tabloid scandals of the decade. It was a story about sex, betrayal, and violence that consumed America. But behind the headlines and the chaos was a nine-year-old girl whose life would never be the same.
This week, Rachel sits down with Jessie Buttafuoco, daughter of Mary Jo and Joey, to talk about what it was like growing up in the long shadow of that scandal — the trauma, the public judgment, and the complicated process of healing from something the world refused to let die.
This conversation is about identity, forgiveness, and what happens when you inherit a narrative you never asked for.
