WAW POLITRICKS | SECTION 89 CHAIR; ANC MAYOR CRISIS; MADLANGA FUNDING; AARTO; BAFANA VISAS

6 Jun 2026 · 1 h 20 min · Episode 208

Phala Phala is back from the dead. Four years after Parliament voted the Section 89 report into the ground, the Constitutional Court forced a rematch — and now Rise Mzansi's Makashule Gana chairs the 31-member committee deciding whether President Ramaphosa has a case to answer.

Meanwhile, the ANC is vetting mayors with one hand and recycling recalled ones with the other, while Fikile Mbalula gives regional secretaries 30 days to choose between their party posts and their municipal payslips. Matthews Phosa says the party "lost the intellectuals" — we ask what's left.

The Madlanga Commission is running out of money and the Presidency says no more extensions — but civilians and business are offering to fund it themselves. Noble civic duty or a dangerous precedent? We weigh the pros and cons.

Plus: AARTO finally rolls out nationally from 1 July — demerit points, licence suspensions, and a Western Cape that wants no part of it. And Bafana Bafana land in Mexico for the World Cup without their assistant coach and team doctor after a visa fiasco SAFA still can't explain.

DJ Fresh and Botsang Modimowame Moiloa break it all down. No fear, no favour, no filter.
