Episode VC10X - The Dream Indian Angel Investor - Dr. Ritesh Malik, Angel Investor & Founder of Innov8
Ritesh Malik is a medical doctor-turned-entrepreneur, angel investor, speaker, and philanthropist. He founded Innov8 Coworking in 2015 and scaled the business to over 42 locations pre-COVID. After selling Innov8 to OYO, he now focuses on his philanthropic goals in education, cybersecurity, startup policy regulations, village empowerment and healthcare. He is also a sought-after investor in early-stage technology startups and has backed over 70 startups in the past six years. CAVEAT: Ritesh switches to Hindi in some parts of this episode. That said, 98% of the episode is in English which would be beneficial for English-speaking audiences as well. In this episode, we talk about - - The story of building & selling Innov8, one of the first co-working space startups in India - Life after Innov8 exit to OYO - The management style of Ritesh Aggarwal, the founder of OYO, and how that results in close to 0 attrition in senior leadership at OYO - What does Ritesh Malik look for while investing in startups? - Writing off all his startup investments straight away as he considers it burnt capital - How to build trust? - How's his portfolio performing in terms of multiples? - How should founders think about Product Market Fit? - How to differentiate between right and wrong PMF? - How is operating brick-and-mortar businesses different from startup businesses? - His advice to founders who are either thinking of starting up or already in the journey This is one of my personal favorite episodes, and Ritesh is someone I wanted to have on the podcast for a long time as I look up to him personally not just in business but his approach to life in general.
