阿聯酋（阿拉伯聯合大公國）的發展史堪稱現代奇蹟，從一個荒涼的珍珠採集地，在短短幾十年內轉型為全球金融與科技中心。在石油被發現之前（1950年代以前），波斯灣的珍珠是當地唯一的全球性貿易商品。1820年呈1971年，阿聯酋與英國的關係維持「停戰海岸」」關係，是一種「保護契約」關係。這段長達 150 年的歷史，直接形塑了今日阿聯酋的國家版圖。當英國在1971年 12 月 1 日正式結束保護關係後，次日（12 月 2 日），六個大公國在杜拜的「建國宮」（Union House）簽署了聯邦憲法，宣佈 阿拉伯聯合大公國 正式成立。創始成員：阿布達比、杜拜、沙迦、阿吉曼、富查伊拉、烏姆蓋萬。第七名成員：拉斯海瑪。
