Bereits zwölf Menschen waren auf dem Mond, aber erst vier am tiefsten Punkt der Erde. Grund genug für das WAS-IST-WAS-Team, die Tiefsee und ihre Geheimnisse einmal aus nächster Nähe zu erleben. Beim Abstieg in Regionen, die das Sonnenlicht niemals erreicht, tauchen im Scheinwerferlicht unserer Forschenden unglaubliche Wesen auf: Fische, die ihre Beute einer Laterne anlocken, Staatsquallen und Schwarze Raucher. Zum Schluß meldet sich noch ein ganz besonderer Gast zu Wort: Dr. Florian Huber, WAS IST WAS-Buchautor und Terra X-Moderator.
