これは、母の姉つまり俺の叔母が、母に語った話である。
今からおよそ70年くらい前、大晦日、夜の10時半を回った頃、
『ねー、ねえちゃん、私眠くてたまらん、今日無理かも』
『え～、もうあんたが除夜の鐘、聞きたいけん、一緒に起きとこうって言ったとやーん』
『だって、もう目があかんもん。』
俺の母、S子は当時小学3年生。
S子は、大晦日の夜、お寺にある女の鐘が鳴るのを聞いたことがなかった
そして今年こそはと、20代半ばだった姉のヨシミに頼み、
夜中まで起こしていてくれと頼んでいたのだ。
