Il bicarbonato nel frigorifero funziona, ma non è un aspirapolvere universale degli odori: agisce soprattutto come un piccolo neutralizzatore chimico. Reagisce con alcune molecole acide e maleodoranti — per esempio l’acido butirrico del burro rancido — trasformandole in sali non volatili, quindi incapaci di arrivare al naso.
