In de begintijd van de luchtvaart werd met van alles geëxperimenteerd om post sneller te bezorgen. Bijvoorbeeld met een klein vliegtuigje dat vanaf een oceaanstomer per katapult richting de bestemming werd geschoten (eind jaren 1920, begin 1930).
