Vandaag staat de Antwerpse ex-politica Sihame El Kaouakibi, bekend van Let's Go Urban, terecht voor subsidiefraude. De zaak lokt al vijf jaar hevige reacties uit, op het proces moet blijken of de verontwaardiging terecht is.
Hoeveel van het subsidiegeld voor Let's go urban heeft Sihame El Kaouakibi onterecht doorgesluisd naar andere projecten en bedrijfjes? Op die vraag zal het proces, dat vandaag start, een antwoord proberen te bieden.
En is ze al genoeg gestraft door de ruime aandacht die de media voor het gesjoemel met subsidies had? Haar advocaat zal op het proces aanvoeren van wel, maar onze misdaadreporter Mark Eeckhaut heeft daar zijn bedenkingen bij. “Ik vind van niet. De media-aandacht was de tol van de roem. De verontwaardiging was niet meer dan normaal. Iedereen hield van haar. Als dan blijkt dat ze geld onterecht doorsluist, dan voel je je bedrogen.”
