Tall Building Architecture
Prof. Sumana Gupta and Prof. Shankha Pratim Bhattacharya · IIT Kharagpur
About
This course introduces the conceptualization of contemporary and emerging trends in the growth of tall buildings. The course will initially cover the architectural parametric consideration of tall building design. It will also include the architecture-structure interface in conceptualizing the design of tall building. The course will give emphasis on special structural system to encounter gravity and lateral load. The course will also bring the energy requirement of tall building and sustainability issue. The high performance construction materials, system of high-rise building construction, light weight walling applications capable of maintaining lateral stability will be covered. The MEP services, fire and safety issues, user comfort are other components of the course.
Intended audience: Undergraduate: Architecture (B.Arch) and Civil Engineering (B.Tech / B.E.) Postgraduate: Architecture (M.Arch), Master degree students of Construction Management Professional: Faculty in Architecture and Practicing Architects.
Prerequisites: The course is preferred for fourth-year undergraduate architecture students. Students should have knowledge of architectural design, basic structural engineering and building services (usually completed by third year).
