Introduction to Microwave and Optical Metamaterials
Prof. Debabrata Sikdar · IIT Guwahati
About
The course provides a detailed introduction to the metamaterial technology in microwave and optical domain by covering its fundamentals and an overview of the latest advancements with examples. The basics and applied aspects of metamaterials i.e. controlling, guiding, and manipulating electromagnetic radiation will be discussed. The course will first cover the electromagnetic properties of different materials and will introduce the metamaterial concept. Later on, the course will focus on different types of metamaterials such as electric metamaterials, magnetic metamaterials, negative-index metamaterials, chiral and hyperbolic metamaterials, etc. Finally, the course will cover metamaterials for electromagnetic cloaking and tunable devices, followed by different techniques for fabrication and characterization of these metamaterials.
Intended audience: B.Tech (Final year), M.Tech, M.Sc, and PhD students & Members of R&D in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Nanotechnology and Material Engineering
Prerequisites: Basic electromagnetic theory in undergraduate curriculum.
